Phishing is the most well-known form of online fraud. We explain how it works and how to recognize a fake email.
How does phishing work?
In phishing, scammers send you an email that looks very similar to a message from Franx, a bank or another well-known company. In the email, you are asked to click on a link or attachment. You are then taken to a fake website that looks very similar to the bank or company's website. On that website, you are usually asked to enter your details and your security codes. By clicking on a link or attachment in the email, scammers can also install malware on your computer.
How do I recognize a fake email?
Anyone can use the name Franx or another well-known company as a sender. Therefore, always check the email address of the sender. You can do this by clicking on the name of the sender. Scammers often use an unclear and long email address.
What is smishing (fake text message)?
With smishing, scammers do not send you an email, but a text message that looks very much like a message from the bank, an institution or a company. Sometimes with a link and a request to leave your details via the link in this text message. Do not click on this link.
What to do with a phishing email?
Do not click on links or attachments in the email or text message.
